His catchphrase was 'yeyeyeyeyeyeyeyeyeyeye ohohohohoh', beneath which he hid his joy at homecomings: 'I Am Glad Because I Am Finally Coming Home' ('Я очень рад, ведь я, наконец, возвращаюсь домой') was one of the most famous lyrics penned by Arkadi Ostrovski and sung with innate grace by Eduard Anatolyevich Khil. The Russian singer was selected 'honoured artist of the USSR' in 1968. Censorship by the state who disliked the American cowboy message of the tune reduced the song to a mere 'ye', 'oh' and 'tro'. Eduard, who spread the joy of living with this masterpiece, died in St Petersburg on 4 June at the age of 77 (Image: (cc) youtube screenshot)
