Obituary Italian singer Lucio Dalla, 68: 'Ciao'

The Bologna-born singer-songwriter died of a heart attack on 1 March whilst on the road in Montreux, Switzerland, three days before his 69th birthday. His fifty years of songs and concerts were a soundtrack for three generations of Italians; hits such as 'L'anno che verrà', 'A modo mio', 'Ciao' and 'Com'è profondo il mare' form part of our future musicians' cultural background. Dalla started out as a jazz clarinettist, going on to dominate the Italian beat generation scene. As Dalla said in one his best-known lyrics in this music video and MTV hit, 'We'll see each other in a field/ Where we will start to feel the breeze arriving'; Canzone was released in 2003, the same year as Luciano Pavarotti joined Dalla onstage in concert
