Once upon a 6 May the UK hung its parliament
Over the last four weeks we've been garnering a European view of the UK elections on 6 May, where the last thirteen years of labour government faces change. Continental concerns are about the state of the UK budget, and there's been surprise by the 'Cleggmania' twist in the election campaign, which became a three-horse race (time for a Spanish first lady?). It's also raised queries about the UK's electoral law system, voter apathy and the fact there seems to be no left alternative in Britain – read the profile of a hijab-wearing candidate in a northern constituency. Forecasters say the conservatives might win in a coalition government with the liberal democrats, meaning Europeans might see a change in the make-up of the current 27-bloc European identity. Who would you vote for - David, Gordon or Nick?

Bloc Identitaire: lowdown on France's new far-right
You couldn't miss them during the regional elections in France between 14 and 21 March. Not that the far-right party, which proclaims to defend the civilisation of 'true Europeans', shone at the voting booths. Other extreme-right parties have now taken up the same anti-islamic mantra

Germany's far-right: style and tea party shakeup
Boots, bomber jacket, baseball bat - does it sound like your average neo-nazi? As an anti-immigration march took place on the route of a mosque in Duisburg last weekend, remember that for a long time now the far-right extremists in Germany have tried to tone down their appearance in order to gain new followers

Casa Pound Italia: Neo-fascists on the rise
Casa Pound Italia is at the heart of the Italian Neo-fascist movement. 'We will build the world that we want!' cry the militants across the website of the group, inspired by a poet, and dedicated to action. Meanwhile there is no shortage of complaint, between accusations of violence, and questions being raised in parliament. A look at a movement inspired by fascism, but that refuses the label of 'extreme right'

The Netherlands, France, Italy: rise of Europe's right-wing
After Geert Wilders in Holland, the1 Le Pen family in France gained the votes at the regional elections on 14 March 2010, confirming the positive trend of extreme righ-wing at the old continent. Together with Italy's Lega Nord, these parties represent a practical example of new right populists who do not like to be labelled 'extremists'

Rise of the far-right in Europe
As a grouping, it's complex and divided, but they gained ground in the last elections. Whether populist or islamophobic, these nationalist parties won seats among the ranks of the eurosceptics in the European parliament; 8 MPs for the Lega Nord, 3 for the Hungarian Jobbik, 4 for Geert Wilders' PVV, 2 for the British BNP. These neo-fascists have harnessed the web to gather large followings and create a media buzz. What does democracy have to say for itself?

EU elections: why Europe has been loyal to the right
Tepid, failed third-way socialism: with 267 out of 736 seats, the European people’s party (EPP) have won the elections for the third consecutive time in a row. Only the ruling socialist and liberal parties have felt a kinf of ‘punishment vote’ inspired by dealings of the crisis. The greens and the nationalists have taken advantage of the discontent engulfing European politics
