They count Courtney Love as a fan, they're one of the groundbreaking new acts of 2009 and among the most innovative bands of the late decade. Climate change summit in Copenhagen: after us, the deluge
We all know about it. Between 7 and 18 December, Copenhagen hosts the UN climate change conference. There's been lots of talk about how 'useful' it will be. US president Obama (after he picks ups his Peace Nobel in Oslo on 10 December) and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao will be representing in Denmark, courtesy of the world's two biggest polluters. That should be enough to breathe some kind of half-sigh of relief. Like the German director Roland Emmerich's sciene fiction film 2012, which forecasts the umpteenth end of the world, the date is of some interest. That after all is when the nifty Kyoto protocol expires

Scandinavia, new top erasmus destination?
In 2008, almost 13, 700 students on the 'erasmus' student exchange programme were drawn to countries in northern Europe. Finland, Sweden and even Norway aren't yet threatening Spain in its pole position as Europe's most popular destination, but they're generating an enormous amount of debate, between cliches and untruths. From student salaries in Denmark to Finnish e-courses, we tackle the young man or woman's Nordic myth

EU formulates 2050 climate objectives
The US and Australia still have a long way to go. China and India could refuse the objectives altogether. The German, Dutch and Luxembourg press fear that the move could come at a heavy cost for Europe and be of little use to the world

Roskilde festival '09, dionysian mini-version of modern Scandinavian welfare states
I've been to Roskilde many times. Usually I skip most of the concerts and just kind of float around in the unreal reality that magically evolves when you put people on a field and tell them to do as they please. I did however, for the sake of this article, make it to a few concerts
