I'm interested in gender issues, sexuality, social movements and progressive politics. I write a regular column about queer theory at www.belowthebelt.org.

europe_is far too complex to sum up in a few lines. The irony, I suppose, is that most European states were, or aspired to be, rapacious imperial powers. At the same time, Europe is today viewed as a place where human rights and freedoms are taken seriously. However, I am not so sure that Europe has truly escaped its imperialist/racist legacy... something to think about, I guess. /
