Italy plans to build new nuclear power plants with the help of France. Sweden just put an end to their phase-out policy and Swedish Vattenfall is now one of Europe’s leading nuclear energy producers. Spanish head of government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and German chancellor Angela Merkel are under pressure to reconsider a rejection of nuclear power. Is nuclear power the future of energy?

"Energy companies are afraid of new technologies because they put their monopoly into question. European governments should continue the nuclear phase-out." That makes no sense at all. Most of the really huge energy companies are oil companies that would directly benefit from a nuclear phase-out. Just because we shut down a nuclear reactor we wont consume less energy. Instead we will be forced to replace the energy by coal or oil, which is much worse for the environment.
