The European basketball championship kicked off in Lithuania on 31 August. For the first time, 24 teams are challenging the title, and six are from the Balkans: Bosnia, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia and Montenegro. Who will be champions after the final on 18 September ?
1. Lithuania: as host nation they won’t miss the chance
2. Spain: the brothers Gasol, two of the best European players, and co. won’t let go of the title that they conquered in 2009 that easily
3. Italy: for the first time the national side will see the marvellous trio Belinelli-Galllinari-Bargnan side by side, who usually play exclusively in the US
4. France: Tony Parker time. Another top European player who has never won a title with his national team
5. Germany: after all the star player Dirk Nowitzki won the NBA title with Dallas this year
6. Serbia: came second in 2009 with the youngest team, averaging around 23 years. Two years on, they have more experience and the greatest athletic potential
