Hungary: rights for sale?

Victor Orbán – a populist? An agitator? A demagogue? Or a democrat, promising to steer away from the European parliament and elected by the large majority of crisis-ridden Hungarians always ready to take to the street? Brussels’ protest against the elimination of opposition in the Hungarian press had almost no effect. Now the commission has introduced infringement procedures due to the independence of the central bank, the courts and data production. Is Brussels a paper tiger in this arm wrestle with Budapest, only strong enough to make its point through money?
