The Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced today that Danis Tanović’s Cirkus Columbia has been selected as the country’s Foreign Language Academy Award submission.

Co-produced by 2006 (Bosnia), Asap Films (France), Autonomous (UK), Studio Maj (Slovenia), Razor Film Produktion (Germany) and Art & Popcorn (Serbia), Cirkus Columbia is set on the eve of the civil war in the former Yugoslavia, when a Herzegovinian returns to his home village after 20 years of working in Germany, with pockets full of money and a young trophy wife-to-be. He plans revenge against old enemies but soon learns that political turmoil will render his intentions pointless.
