Between now and 2050, the European parliament is proposing to increase energy efficiency by 35% and to make this a legal requirement for member states. It also wants renewable energy to account for 60% of our energy consumption, and to bring greenhouse gas emissions down by at least 80%. Parliament has also emphasised the importance of nuclear power’s ‘contribution to the energy mix’.
