Six former Nobel prizewinners – authors Günter Grass (Germany), Orhan Pamuk (Turkey) and Dario Fo (Italy), former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev (Russia), neurophysiologist Rita Levi-Montalcini (Italy) and activist Desmond Tutu (South Africa) have also signed the petition for the Italian writer, who comes from the Naples region. There are now over 180, 000 signatures.
